Picking one that works
The holiday season is the one stretch of the year when a virtual background is expected rather than tolerated, and it runs longer than people plan for: Thanksgiving at the end of November, Christmas through December, New Year at the turn.

When should I put a holiday background on Teams?
Most offices start in the last week of November and take it down in the first week of January. Adding the image earlier costs nothing, because Teams only uses it once you select it.
Can I use an animated holiday background in Teams?
No. Teams custom backgrounds are still images only, JPG or PNG. Animated GIF and video uploads are not supported, whatever you have seen elsewhere.
Is there a holiday background that works for client calls?
Look for something festive but quiet — a snowy window, a plain room with one decoration. Tinsel and fairy lights are high-contrast clutter, which reads as noise on a small tile and confuses the cutout around your shoulders.
