Picking one that works

Searches for a Christmas background for a Chromebook or computer climb sharply every December. These images were picked for that use: wide scenes with an open centre, so desktop icons stay readable.

To set one as your wallpaper, download it first. On Windows, right-click the file and choose Set as desktop background. On a Mac, add it under Wallpaper in System Settings. On a Chromebook, right-click the desktop, choose Set wallpaper and pick the file from your downloads.

Whatever you choose, the setup is the same in every app: Teams, Zoom and Google Meet each hide the option in a different menu, and all three want the same 1920 x 1080 file.

Common questions

What size Christmas background fits a laptop or Chromebook?

Most laptop and Chromebook screens are 16:9, and every image here is 1920 x 1080, which is 16:9 at full HD. It fills the screen without stretching. On a 16:10 screen you lose a thin strip at the sides.

Can I use these as a Teams or Zoom background?

Yes. Download the image, then add it as a custom background: in Teams under Effects and avatars, in Zoom under Background & effects, in Google Meet under Apply visual effects. The how-to guides on this site walk through each one.

Will these work as a phone wallpaper?

Only partly. Every image is 1920 x 1080 landscape, built for a screen that is wider than it is tall. A phone set to portrait shows a narrow strip from the middle, so pick one with the interesting part in the centre, or use it on a laptop, desktop or tablet instead.
